The smell of pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon on every corner only means one thing: fall has arrived. From hayrides, watching a Halloween classic, or stopping at a local cafe for a warm latte, the options to jump into the new season are endless.
But what about those days when you want to take a solo trip, curl up with a cozy blanket, or soak in the crisp air all by yourself? If you are someone who values your alone time or someone who enjoys lighting a candle and curling up with a fuzzy blanket, here are some of my favorite solo activities for the fall season.
Get Crafty
Decorating your home, or personal space, for the season is essential, especially if you are someone who loves to do DIY projects! The first solo activity is one that you can do from the comfort of your own home.
Fall leaf-pressed candles have been trending on TikTok and Instagram since the weather hit below 70 degrees. This quick and easy craft will spice up your fall decorations and bring a unique touch to your home.
What you need:
Iron (if you do not have an iron, you can use a hair dryer!)
How to create the perfect fall candle:
Select a few leaves and arrange them on the wax candle.
Once you finalize the placement of the leaves, place the wax paper over a leaf and gently, with low to medium heat, place the iron on top of the paper. The leaf will melt right into place on the candle.
Repeat this process until you have a new festive candle!
A creative centerpiece is another way to draw attention to the decorations in your home. This fall centerpiece is elegant and classy, with a pumpkin twist! The best part about DIY decorations is that you can choose to change certain aspects of the craft. If this pumpkin centerpiece isn’t your style, try swapping the pumpkins with acorns! What you need:
Creating the pumpkin centerpiece:
First, take the wide, glass vase and place it on your table. Next, take the tall, glass vase, and place it inside the wide vase. This will create an inner circle where the pumpkins will fill the space.
Take your decorative pumpkins and layer them in the vase. Fill the wide vase to the top, so it almost looks like you are hiding the tall vase!
Finally, take your fall leaf stems and strategically place them into the tall vase as you would do with flowers. Arrange them to your liking.
Ta-da! You now have a fall bouquet centerpiece!
Fall Jewelry Making:
Colder weather and the changing of leaves call for new fall jewelry. For this solo activity, you can create a personal charm necklace for yourself that will become a staple in each of your fall outfits.
The first step to making a charm necklace is to research some jewelry shops near you. Many local shops have the creative ability to make necklaces or bracelets. If you find one near you, have a solo date and create a necklace to your liking.
If you do not have a local shop near you that offers charm necklaces, here are the steps to do it yourself and make a necklace by hand!
What you need:
Paper clip necklace chain: This is a must-have for making a charm necklace. A chunky chain, like this one from Amazon, is the perfect size to start creating your necklace. The chain can be as long or as short as you need. It also comes with clasps and extra rings, so you don’t have to go back out to the store for more supplies!
Charms: The best part of these solo activities, especially the DIY ones, is that you are in charge of what you are creating. You are making a charm necklace for yourself and you get to pick out the charms. One thing I love about charm necklaces is that you are also able to change out the charms seasonally or every day! To fit into the fall season, check out these autumn charms that would look adorable as the center of the necklace. If you are going for an everyday look, try some of these charms: western charms, initial charms, or assorted charms!
Jewelry pliers: You will need these jewelry pliers to make sure your necklace and charms are secure!
Explore a Farmers Market
Sunday resets are essential, especially as the seasons are changing. Almost every Sunday, you can find a farmers market in your local town. Attending a farmers market to collect some fresh produce, test out new samples, or try new products is something I have loved doing by myself. On a fresh fall morning, a farmers market is the perfect place to reset your mind!
Oftentimes, I like to find what my town or surrounding towns are hosting through their local newsletters or websites. One week there might be a new food truck or local business trying to get its feet on the ground, while other weeks there might be a free pumpkin-picking event. For me, this is the perfect fall activity as you get to stroll around, meet new people, and purchase your favorite things!
A farmers market essential for me is a reusable tote bag. You can find a reusable bag at almost any store, as it is now not only more acceptable to use reusable bags, but it is more fashionable too.
Here are some of my favorite bags:
Barnes and Noble have some of the best quality bags. I currently have two I use on rotation, and they have been filled with books, groceries, and flowers, and still are in great shape. If you are looking for a colorful reusable bag that matches a farmers market vibe, check this one out!
When you are at a farmers market, your hands will get full of samples and greens before you know it. These bags from Amazon are great for walking around, as they fold up into little pouches. You can store them in small areas and open them when you are ready to put your purchases away!
If you are looking for a more fashionable tote bag, Target has great options to choose from. This woven bag is the perfect option to match an everyday outfit while making sure all your goodies can be carried around!
Looking for a pop of color? These Lands’ End bags from Target are another great purchase. The bags are sturdy, water resistant, and can fold up into a smaller folded tote. A perfect option as a transition piece into fall.
This fall season, I know I will be taking many solo trips to new places like a crafts store, local business, and farmers market. While there are many solo activities, these are some of my favorite things to do in the autumn weather.
